G-MAC Baseball Players of the Week (Feb. 13)

INDIANAPOLIS – Trevecca Nazarene outfielder Bryson Shelton and Kentucky Wesleyan right-hander Nate Verst were named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week on Monday.

Trevecca Nazarene and Kentucky Wesleyan made their season debuts over the past week. The Trojans faced Montevallo for a three-game series while KWC was matched up against Georgia Southwestern and West Alabama.

Shelton was the G-MAC Player of the Week while Verst earned G-MAC Pitcher of the Week honors.

Shelton was in midseason form from the start by going 7-for-13 with a pair of home runs and four RBI against the Falcons.

He now ranks tied for eighth all-time in G-MAC history in career homers. The mashing lefty powered the 10th and 11th bombs of his career against Montevallo pitching.

Shelton also drew a pair of walks and scored three runs as TNU faced a program that had already had four games under its belt. Shelton had one of eight TNU stolen bases in the series as well.

Shelton launched his first home run during his second plate appearance of the spring, a solo shot in the third inning of the season opener.

He produced the first run for TNU in the next game with an RBI single before hitting a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

Verst earned the winning decision and helped deliver the first win for the G-MAC this spring as the Panthers completed two-run rally against the Canes.

Verst relieved starter (and first-team all-conference selection) Ryan Hundley and shut down the GSW offense for two scoreless innings. He was on record when Cody Bridges delivered a two-run triple and Nathan Stemle provided game-winning heroics with a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning.

Verst fanned a pair in his first outing of the year and is coming off a strong sophomore season that included a 4.50 ERA in 50 innings pitched.
