12.12.17

INDIANAPOLIS – After being ranked 24th a week ago, Cedarville’s women’s basketball program climbed two spots in the WBCA Top-25 Poll to No. 22.

The Yellow Jackets are 7-1 overall and 2-0 early on through the Great Midwest schedule as one of four unbeatens in league play.

Cedarville has won six straight and lead the country in three-point field goal percentage (.450) and is second in overall field goal percentage (.513).

The Yellow Jackets caught everyone’s attention in the preseason with an exhibition upset against Penn State University, one of a handful of wins by Great Midwest institutions against Division I competition.

Cedarville’s first test versus conference teams resulted in home wins against Trevecca and Kentucky Wesleyan this past weekend. The Yellow Jackets will be tested this week at league newcomers Hillsdale (5-3, 3-1 G-MAC) and back at home against Findlay (7-1, 4-0 G-MAC).

Cedarville features the top scoring margin in the conference, beating opponents by an average score of 18.4 points per game.

The Yellow Jackets are also second as a team in assists and feature deadly shooting from all over the floor to lead the league in overall and three-point percentages.

Great Midwest Player of the Week (Week 1) Regina Hochstetler is averaging 18.1 points per game through eight contests so far. Breanne Watterworth’s efficiency in the post has translated into a league-best .627 field goal percentage and senior crashes the glass hard with 9.9 rebounds per contest.

With a minimum of 300 field goals made, Watterworth is the conference’s career leader in field goal percentage since 2014, making over 59 percent of her shots. She is about as close to averaging a double-double (11.8 ppg/9.9 rpg) as someone could get.

Freshman outside threat Steve Johnting has connected on over 72 percent of her tries from beyond the arc (with 13 makes) while Hochstetler and Baylee Bennett have combined for 47-of-94 makes from deep (each 50 percent).
