Ursuline’s Lewis Tabbed USBWA National Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – For the second time in her career and third time overall in Ursuline’s program history, senior forward Laney Lewis was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) National Player of the Week.
 
Lewis was just named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the fifth time in her career. She had previously won the USBWA national weekly honor on November 29 of 2016 last year while teammate Camryn Hill also received the award in December of 2015.
 
Lewis is a two-time defending Great Midwest Player of the Year as voted by the league’s coaches.
 
This is also the first USBWA National Player of the Week Award distributed for the 2017-18 season.
 
The senior forward was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week after averaging a triple-double with 19 points, 13.5 rebounds and 11 assists per game as the Arrows defeated West Liberty and Saginaw Valley State. 
 
Lewis scored 23 points and dished out 11 assists to go with seven rebounds, four blocks and four steals in a 105-85 home victory over West Liberty. 
 
Lewis then recorded 15 points, 20 rebounds and 11 assists in an 80-71 win at regional foe Saginaw Valley State, while adding two blocks and a steal. 
 
The Lynchburg, Ohio, native also averaged three blocks and 2.5 steals in the two victories, while shooting 45 percent from the field and 75 percent (12-of-16) at the free-throw line.
