Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week (Nov. 21)

INDIANAPOLIS – Malone and Hillsdale both received Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week awards as announced on Tuesday.
 
Three of the Great Midwest men’s programs were in action as Findlay beat Tiffin and raced against Toledo. Malone hosted an invitational at home and Davis & Elkins went to Ohio Wesleyan; D&E and Malone each finished third on the men’s side.
 
The D&E women’s also finished third and the Malone women placed fourth. Findlay’s women also toppled Tiffin while Hillsdale placed third out of 14 at the University of Chicago Invite.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Brice Dixon
Malone

Dixon has been knocking on the door for weekly conference honors as his collegiate career has gotten off to a fast start in the pool for the Pioneers.
 
He continued that rookie-year progression at the Malone-hosted invitational with five other schools competing.
 
Dixon swam in six different events with a pair of runner-up finishes, two third-place efforts and a tandem of relay events that resulted in fourth. He recorded the second-best marks in the conference in four different events including the 200 freestyle, 100 butterly, 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay.
 
His time in the 50-yard butterfly (23.81) also ranks tops in the conference through the season to date.
 
Dixon placed second in the 200 free and 100-yard butterfly.
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week
Anika Ellingson
Hillsdale
Junior
Litchfield, MN (Litchfield HS)
 
In a 14-team event, Ellingson stood out with three conference-best times in the current season along with a first-place finish in Chicago.
 
She was first in the 100-yard breaststroke and met the NCAA “B” qualifying standard by more than a second with a time of 1:03.20. The NCAA “B” standard is 1:04.65.
 
Her other conference-best times included competing as a member of the Chargers’ 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. HC would finish third and second among all teams at the event, respectively.
 
Ellingson also placed runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.55, second-best among all swimmers from the Great Midwest and Mountain East Conference this year.
 
She would cap off her weekend outing with a top-10 finish in the 200 IM and a time of 2:12.20.
