Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (Oct. 10)

10.10.17

INDIANAPOLIS – One school has officially clinched a playoff berth as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week were announced on Tuesday morning.

With seven playoff berths still on the line, teams have about five games left to make up ground or strengthen their position for the postseason.

Ohio Dominican and Walsh are close behind with just one conference loss each and could clinch their postseason bids as soon as Thursday. The Panthers have 22 conference points in the standings while the Cavaliers have 21. League-leading Ohio Valley has 25.

The quarterfinals will be conducted on the campus of the higher seeds before the semifinals and championship game is played at the campus of the highest remaining seed from the opening round.

Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Week
Grace Miorelli
Cedarville
Midfield
Senior
Souderton, PA (Souderton Area HS)

Miorelli missed all of 2016 with a season-ending injury and redshirted. Her road to recovery is notable as she continues to carve out her place in conference history as one of the league’s premier standouts.

Miorelli scored a pair of goals and had an assist as Cedarville beat Alderson Broaddus and Davis & Elkins over the past week.

She also factored into the game-winning plays for each contest. Miorelli scored the game-winning goal against AB and assisted the game winner against D&E.

Miorelli currently ranks second all-time in Great Midwest history in career assists with 28. She is currently fourth in career goals with 35 and her next one would tie for fourth all-time.

All told, the talented playmaker has quietly accumulated 98 points in her career to date, putting her third all-time only behind Jacoby Ziegler’s 139 (Cedarville, 2012-15) and Vanessa Consiglio’s 138 (Ursuline, 2012-15) points.

Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Week
Montserratt Grau
Ohio Valley
Midfield
Sophomore
Santiago, Chile (University of Chile)

The Fighting Scots’ undefeated season was preserved as Ohio Valley traveled to record a pair of shutouts at Davis & Elkins and Alderson Broaddus.

Grau has plenty of responsibility in OVU’s defensive scheme as the center back as the Fighting Scots extended their current win streak to eight straight.

She played all possible 180 minutes in each shutout effort and recorded one assist against D&E.

The Fighting Scots only permitted a combined eight shots against both opponents and only two were on goal.
