INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week were announced for the sixth week of the regular season on Tuesday.
For the second consecutive week, seniors Daniel Michalski of Cedarville and Sarah Berger of Walsh paced the rest of the conference, this time doing so at the Lewis Conference Crossover.
Four women’s teams and one men’s team were representatives of the conference by the USTFCCCA Top 25 National Poll in Week 4. Hillsdale’s women’s team led the conference with a fifth-place ranking with Walsh jumping up into the top 10 on the women’s side at No. 10. Cedarville comes in behind them at 17th and Malone rounds out the Great Midwest representation as a newcomer to the Top 25 at No. 22.
Malone was also represented by the men’s team as the Pioneers made their first appearance in the Top 25 this season at No. 25.

After coming in with the fastest 8K time of the season last week at the All-Ohio Championships, Michalski continued his impressive stretch by topping that season best with a 24:57.50 at the Lewis Conference Crossover.
That performance was good enough for a fifth-place individual finish at the event and also qualified as the ninth-fastest 8K time in conference history.
This is the second straight week Michalski has won the G-MAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors and marks the sixth time in his career.
Michalski has now finished first on the team and in the top five overall in all three of the meets he has competed in this season.

Berger also finished with an impressive performance for the second consecutive week and earned her third Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for the season.
Her 6K time of 21:31.50 helped lead No. 10 Walsh to a fourth-place finish at the Lewis Conference Crossover.
That time is also the second-fastest 6K time this season for women, behind only Berger’s own performance from last week at the All-Ohio Championships. The time also ranked as the seventh-best 6K time in conference history.
Berger has finished in the top 10 in all of the races she has competed this season, pacing the Cavaliers in each meet.
