GREENWOOD, Ind. - Malone junior All-American Hannah Campbell was honored as the second Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the fall on Monday.
The Pioneers opened their 2016 season at the Tommy Evans Invitational hosted by the University of Akron. In a unique twist instead of conventional team scoring, Malone faced a total of three NCAA Division I opponents in head-to-head competition.
The Malone women finished the day by defeating host Akron and Youngstown State, while only coming short against Pitt.
Campbell was the first Pioneer to finish in the 5K distance. She took a sixth-place finish in the 5K with a time of 18:40.30.
Her time was good enough for 13th place all-time in G-MAC history for the women in the 5K distance.
Malone will travel to East Lansing this week to compete in the Michigan State Spartan Invitational on Sept. 16.
