ITA Release
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference placed a total of 14 individuals from three member institutions on the prestigious list of 2016 International Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes.
Alderson Broaddus, Cedarville and Davis & Elkins, all had ITA Men’s and Women’s Scholar-Athletes for the 2015-16 academic year.
Additionally, the women’s programs at Cedarville and Davis & Elkins also received the 2016 ITA All-Academic Team award.
Davis & Elkins led all G-MAC schools with seven total combined men’s and women’s ITA Scholar-Athletes, including 2016 G-MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Hali Michael.
The reigning league champs also had Amanda Fewster, Marlene Ridgway and Whitney Timbrook on the list. The D&E men’s ITA Scholar-Athletes included G-MAC Player of the Year Vincent Hamon and Jonathan Gainer and Samuel Vallieres.
Alderson Broaddus’ all-conference performer Mia Fabrega was an ITA Scholar-Athlete along with six Cedarville Yellow Jackets: Olivia Ancil, Kelly Fischer, Kendall Heydt, Kristen Heydt, Elise Perry, Deanna Whalen.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2015 and spring 2016).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
