GREENWOOD, Ind. – Davis & Elkins women’s tennis senior Hali Michael was announced as the 2016 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Friday.
Voting for the 2016 G-MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was conducted by athletic administrators from each school around the league.
Michael, a two-time First Team All-G-MAC selection, helped lead the Senators to their first conference title and an NCAA Championship Midwest Regional appearance this spring.
She went 17-7 in singles action, playing all but one match in the No. 2 position, and racked up an additional 10 wins in doubles competition. The 2015-16 season also saw her receive a pair of G-MAC Athlete of the Week selections.
Michael was the league leader in singles wins for the past season. She also finished her career as the G-MAC’s all-time career leader in singles victories with 44 since stats were tracked starting in 2013-14.
As a four-year letterwinner on the Senators’ women’s tennis team, Michael has internally received from the program the Warrior Award for her tenacity and Most Dedicated title for her strong work ethic.
On campus, Michael was active in various organizations, performed numerous community service projects and also was presented with the Academic Achievement Award of the Department of Business and Entrepenurship.
One of the most prestigious awards in the D&E community was presented to Michael this year after she received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award. The honor was designed to honor those who put service above self.
Michael completed her undergraduate studies at Davis & Elkins with a double major in Accounting and Economics and finished with a cumulative 3.93 GPA.
Michael has also been a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and has also been on the G-MAC Academic All-Conference Team multiple times.
Previous winners of the G-MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award include Vanessa Consiglio (Ursuline – 2015), Natalie Huggins (Ursuline – 2014) and Samantha Gauvin (Ursuline – 2013).
