GREENWOOD, Ind. – Davis & Elkins senior Halima Michael was named the final Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for the spring on Monday.
Michael has earned the conference honor for back-to-back weeks after the Senators made history over the weekend at the Dayton Indoor Tennis Courts in postseason action.
Davis & Elkins was crowned the G-MAC women’s tennis champion for the first time in school history, earning the league’s first automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional in the process.
Michael was instrumental in helping D&E secure the win to the point of decision, winning both her singles and doubles matches.
She defeated Kristen Heydt of Cedarville in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, before teaming with Kelsie Roby in No. 2 doubles for an 8-2 win.
D&E is awaiting word of its regional site that will be announced on Tuesday evening at 8:30 p.m. EST for the sport’s annual selection show aired on NCAA.com.
The Senators finished the regular season with a 14-10 overall record and went on a perfect league run with a 7-0 mark.
