GREENWOOD, Ind. – The inaugural Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship will be conducted later this week on the campus of Ursuline in Pepper Pike, Ohio.
By virtue of going 4-0 in league play during the regular season, the Arrows earned the opening-round bye and the right to host the conference’s three-team event on Friday and Saturday.
The sport has made considerable strides around the conference in 2016 as it shores up for increased membership participation in for the 2017-18 academic year.
This year’s tournament will feature No. 1 Ursuline, No. 2 Alderson Broaddus and No. 3 Davis & Elkins.
The G-MAC Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference Team will also be announced later this week.
Alderson Broaddus and Davis & Elkins will meet in a Friday afternoon semifinal at 1 p.m. EST while Ursuline will play the winner on Saturday with a 2 p.m. EST scheduled start.
Both matches will be streamed online with video/audio/live stats at G-MACsports.com. Admission at the gates is free for all ages this weekend.
Ursuline (8-8, 4-0 G-MAC) beat Alderson Broaddus (8-9, 2-2 G-MAC) and Davis & Elkins (1-9, 0-4 G-MAC) twice. All three institutions have also had at least one G-MAC Athlete of the Week selection.
Statistically, the Arrows have the top three goal/assist/point leaders per game in the league. Haley Mazreku, Anika Aberegg and Cydney Bartlett, rank among the league leaders this spring.
AB’s Jasmine Barham and Mykirah Jones have combined for 77 goals and Davis & Elkins has been led by 21 goals from Gabby Fagan on the season.
Bartlett was the G-MAC league leader in points scored with 61 (45 goals, 16 assists). She has been a two-time pick by the league as athlete of the week (March 21, April 18).
Ursuline will enter the G-MAC Championships as winners in five of its last six contests.
The Battlers took a giant leap forward in the program’s development from a one-win season a year ago, entering the postseason with eight victories under head coach Jennifer Guess.
Davis & Elkins was able to earn a win in the program’s first year of existence under head coach Emily Peets when the Senators toppled Montreat in the second game of the season.
