GREENWOOD, Ind. – Trevecca Nazarene junior Bryan Smith and Salem International junior Tanner Helms were named the 15th set of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Athletes of the Week on Monday.
Smith earned honors from the league for the second time this spring as the Trojans wrapped up another G-MAC regular-season title while Helms had a huge week with the bat for the Tigers.
A total of six teams are getting ready for the G-MAC Baseball Championship this week in Mason, Ohio, at PRASCO Park.

Smith delivered a complete-game shutout in what would turn out to be a pivotal contest to begin TNU’s final series of the regular season against Kentucky Wesleyan.
In the first game of the four-game set, Smith blanked the Panthers with the nine-inning gem. He struck out six, scattered eight hits and walked none.
With the win, he maintained his position as the G-MAC’s all-time leader in wins (23) while holding the fourth-best ERA and second-most strikeouts (202).

Helms was a one-man wrecking crew as the Tigers concluded the regular season against Ohio Valley. Salem International played a total of five games during the week while fitting in a non-conference game against Bluefield State.
In the past week, he batted .429 going 9-for-21 at the plate. He mashed five extra-base hits including three home runs and a pair of doubles while driving in a total of nine RBI.
Helms also scored four runs and had a slugging percentage of .952.
Against Ohio Valley in game two alone on May 6 he belted two homers, doubled, had five RBI and scored twice.
