GREENWOOD, Ind. – Davis & Elkins senior Halima Michael was named the fourth Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for the 2015-16 spring season.
Michael and the Senators clinched the No. 1 seed in the G-MAC Championship this weekend as they defeated Cedarville leading up to the tournament on Friday and Saturday.
As the regular season concluded, Michael led all players in the G-MAC in singles wins with 15, mainly playing the No. 2/3 position for the entire year.
Michael finished a combined 6-0 in singles and doubles this past week as Davis & Elkins faced Ursuline, Alderson Broaddus and Cedarville.
Against AB, beat Eva Sever in straight sets before teaming with Kelsie Roby for the doubles win. She won all possible 12 games for the clean sweep vs. Ursuline’s Brianna DeMarco and combined with Roby for another doubles victory in the No. 2 position.
Against Cedarville’s Kristen Heydt, Michael again emerged as the winner in straight sets, a crucial match since both teams ended up splitting the six singles bouts.
Michael and Roby won their No. 2 doubles match again, this time by a score of 8-3 to help the Senators win by a narrow team score of 5-4.
The Senators finished the regular season with a perfect 7-0 record in the league and will compete in the G-MAC Championship at Cedarville’s Johnson-Murdoch Complex weather permitting.
