3.28.16

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Alderson Broaddus sophomore attacker Mykirah Jones was named the fifth Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Athlete of the Week for the 2016 season on Monday.

The Battlers improved their overall record to 5-4 this weekend by beating the District of Columbia while falling just short of a victory against the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a 14-12 score

Between the back-and-forth scoring against the Chargers from UAH, Jones brought the Battlers within one with an unassisted goal with just 10 minutes of play in AB’s late rally attempt.

Jones led the Battlers for the evening with five goals and an assist in the cause.

Against the Firebirds later in the week, Jones served as motivation for the Battlers in the first half as she scored three of the four goals for AB.

She was one of three Battlers to lead the team with three goals apiece. Krista Cooper and Jasmine Barham were the other two to etch out three goals.

Jones, along with her three goals, contributed a draw control and one ground ball.

Jones has started seven of eight games for Alderson Broaddus. She currently ranks sixth in the G-MAC in goals (18), eighth in points per game (2.38) and is tied for second in game-winning goals (1).

The Battlers look to their next contest later this week on Thursday where they will travel to Wheeling Jesuit to take on the Cardinals.
