GREENWOOD, Ind. – Alderson Broaddus junior infielder Marquis Collier and Kentucky Wesleyan sophomore pitcher Sammy Holder were named the ninth set of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Athletes of the Week on Monday. 

Collier and the Battlers earned a four-game conference sweep against Salem International while Holder helped stake the Panthers to a 3-1 weekend vs. league opponent Ohio Valley.

Collier earned his second conference weekly honor of the spring and Holder earned his first career selection.

Collier paced the offense to help AB to a 5-0 week including a four-game G-MAC sweep of Salem International.

He posted mutli-hit games in all five contests this week. In the lone non-conference game Collier went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI.

He was 2-for-4 with a pair of walks in the opener with Salem International with a run scored. He added a 2-for-3 game in the nightcap with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

On day two, Collier was 2-for-3 with a triple, RBI and run scored in the opener and 2-for-2, both doubles, with a pair of walks four runs scored and three RBI.

He finished the week hitting .647 (11-for-17) including three doubles, a triple and a home run giving him a slugging percentage of 1.118. His four walks boosted his on-base percentage to .696

Collier is the current league leader in hits (32) and doubles (11) and he is second in the conference in batting average (.410).

The reigning G-MAC Freshman of the Year handcuffed the Fighting Scots in his lone start, tossing a five-hit shutout. 

Holder struck out eight batters in seven innings, earning his third winning decision of the season in six starts.

Holder held Ohio Valley’s bats in check in a tightly-contested 3-0 final. He only walked one and faced just three batters over the minimum.

He induced two double play balls and stranded four runners on base even though OVU outhit KWC, 5-3. 

This year, Holder is 3-2 with a 4.01 ERA in 24.2 innings pitched. He has struck out almost one batter per inning (24).
