INDIANAPOLIS - Malone sophomore George McCartney has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Monday.
McCartney was recognized from his performance at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships last Friday in Springfield hosted by Cedarville.
McCartney led the Pioneers to an 11th place overall team finish among 42 Ohio schools and a 4th place finish among those in NCAA Division II/NAIA.
He ran the 8K course in a time of 26:09.80 to a 38th place individual finish in a field of 287 runners. McCartney also now lays claim to the fourth and fifth-fastest 8K times in the league this year (Michigan State Invitational).
He also posted the ninth-best time among the 109 runners competing in NCAA Division II/NAIA.
He and the rest of the Pioneers will travel to Saint Leo, Florida to compete in the Saint Leo Invitational this Saturday, October 8th. Malone will then host the G-MAC Championships on October 22nd.
