GREENWOOD, Ind. – Several organizations around the country have recognized baseball student-athletes from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference for their accomplishments this spring.
The G-MAC was represented on all-region and All-American teams released by Daktronics, the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and the National Baseball Collegiate Writers Association (NCBWA).
G-MAC Offensive Player of the Year Hunter Newman of Trevecca Nazarene garnered multiple NCAA Division II All-American honors following his monster offensive junior campaign.
Newman was the Daktronics Midwest Region Player of the Year and was a third-team All-American following the next step of balloting.
Newman was a Second Team ABCA/Rawlings DII All-American along with Troy Paris of Kentucky Wesleyan.
He additionally was an ABCA/Rawlings Midwest Region first team honoree, a Daktronics Midwest Region first teamer, and honored as a NCBWA Midwest Region first-team member.
Making more noise on the national landscape, Newman is among eight finalists for the 2015 D2 Baseball News Tino Martinez Award, presented to the most outstanding NCAA Division II player.
TNU and Kentucky Wesleyan both spotted several players on the Daktronics Midwest Region First Team including the Trojans’ G-MAC Pitcher of the Year Michael Purcell.
Kentucky Wesleyan’s Josh Galvan, Paris and Matt Pobereyko, were also voted into the first team. Two more student-athletes earned status on the regional second team with Luke Shiflett (Alderson Broaddus) and Johnathan Eberhardt (KWC) each landing postseason honors.
Newman, Purcell and Tyler Tichenor, were all selected to the NCBWA Midwest Region First Team while Eberhardt reeled in in second-team honors.
