2015 G-MAC Baseball All-Conference Team
GREENWOOD, Ind. – A talented list of student-athletes from around the league officially comprised the 2015 All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Team for the spring season.
Three-time G-MAC tournament champion Trevecca Nazarene claimed G-MAC Offensive Player of the Year and G-MAC Pitcher of the Year individual awards following dominant runs by Hunter Newman and Michael Purcell.
Alderson Broaddus skipper Luke Harrigan earned G-MAC Coach of the Year distinction after leading the Battlers into the Midwest Region rankings and a runner-up finish in the regular-season league standings.
Sammy Holder of Kentucky Wesleyan was also named the G-MAC Freshman of the Year as the rookie righty helped form a feared pitching rotation for the Panthers.
The Trojans completed an unbeaten run once again in the G-MAC Championship for their third consecutive title.
TNU also made a valiant bid to try and qualify as an at-large selection for the national tournament.
Newman was the cornerstone for the Trojans offensively, pacing the conference in several major categories including home runs (18), runs scored (67), RBI (77), batting average (.451), walks (39) and total bases (171).
The junior third baseman was a nightmare matchup for any pitcher while impressing in the summer circuit with the Valley Baseball League.
His offensive numbers ranked among the nation’s best with his potential draft stock as a professional prospect soaring.
Purcell’s left-handed pure electric stuff stymied opponents to the tune of a 2.21 ERA in 15 games. He logged over 89 innings and compiled a 7-1 win-loss record while striking out 91 hitters.
He started 12 games and held opposing batters to a .224 average.
Harrigan’s Battlers strung together an 11-game win streak in March and split against Trevecca Nazarene in the final series of the regular season. AB was locked with TNU at No. 7 in the Midwest Region rankings towards the end of the regular season.
Holder put together a 3.32 ERA in eight starts for Kentucky Wesleyan. He was 4-3 and pitched 57 innings, including five complete games and a pair of shutouts.
