DALLAS, Texas – Sophomore right-handed starter Randy Dobnak of Alderson Broaddus was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association (NCBWA) Div. II Midwest Region Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday.
Dobnak earned Great Midwest Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors as the Battlers have mounted an 11-game win streak with a perfect 8-0 record in the league standings at the time of release.
Dobnak caught the attention of the NCBWA after firing a four-hit shutout against Ohio Valley in the midst of a four-game AB sweep. He struck out nine batters over the seven innings to lower his G-MAC-leading ERA down to 1.36 on the spring.
He has made five starts so far this year, factoring with a decision in every game. In addition, Dobnak has gone the distance for four complete games and two shutouts while logging 33 innings total.
Dobnak is tied for fourth in the league in innings pitched and strikeouts while holding opponents to just a .167 batting average.
He also leads the G-MAC in complete games and shutouts while the Battlers’ pitching staff has the best combined ERA at 3.89.
