Coaches’ Poll - Spring Preview
The 2014-15 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis season will be the G-MAC’s second as an active NCAA Division II conference. As defending champions, Davis & Elkins will look to repeat and the Coaches have put a target on the Senators, selecting them as the favorites in the mid-season coach’s poll.
D&E, who defeated Cedarville in the conference finals last year, earned four of the possible five first place votes, while the Lady Jackets were given the other two (note - coaches could not rank their own team in the preseason poll). The Senators finished with 24 points, while Cedarville was close behind with 22 points.
Alderson Broaddus finished third in the preseason poll with 15 points and two second place selections. The Battlers edged out Kentucky Wesleyan, who had 13 points behind three third place votes. Ursuline was fourth with 10 points and Central State sixth with six points. The G-MAC Conference Championship will again be hosted by Cedarville University on April 24-25 in Cedarville, Ohio.

Alderson Broaddus University: The Battlers are competing in their second full season as a NCAA DII women’s tennis program. They had a pretty successful season in 2013-14, finishing above .500 in conference and winning eight matches overall. In the fall, AB was 0-4 as a team, but managed nine wins in the first three matches (9-16 overall), before getting swept by Slippery Rock to end the fall.
Alderson Broaddus will open spring play at Marietta College on March 21 before staring G-MAC play against Ursuline on March 27. The Battlers will play seven conference matches and three non-conference matches in the spring, leading up to the conference championship on April 24-25.
Mia Fabrega leads the team with two wins in singles play, both coming at number three singles.
Cedarville University: The Lady Jackets, produced a 17-7 record for the second-straight season, and went 6-1 in conference, falling only to D&E in the regular-season and then again in the conference championship match.
In the fall, Cedarville went 2-5 overall, securing wins at Brescia and at Asbury. The spring season begins with the annual Spring Break trip to Orlando, Florida where the Lady Jackets played four matches, going 1-3. CU has some time off following spring break, as Conference play will start on March 27 against Kentucky Wesleyan.
Individually, Courtney Heydt has led the way, going 7-4 at number two singles this season. She is also 5-6 at number one doubles. Maryssa Herbert is 5-6, while Lily Schuler paired with Heydt to post their 5-6 record in doubles.
Central State University: The Marauders did not participate in the fall portion of the tennis season, but have begun their 14-match spring schedule, with a five match spring break trip. The team went 0-5 on the trip, but managed three individual wins in the five matches. An individual win was been posted by NyAsia Tayor in number five singles.
CSU will return to action, starting with G-MAC season opener, at Davis and Elkins on March 14. They will then play back-to-back matches against Indiana University East, before playing G-MAC opponents as they lead up to the conference championship on April 24-25.
Davis & Elkins College: The Senators, who won the G-MAC Championship last season, enter as the conference favorites this season. In the fall, D&E played only one match, winning 9-0 over King. The team did take part in a variety of events, but as individuals and not against team opponents. So far this spring, the team played five matches in Hilton Head, South Carolina, but couldn’t manage a win.
The team will return to action on March 14, beginning the G-MAC schedule, against Central State. The Senators will then take on four non-conference opponents before returning to conference action.
Individually, Hali Michael leads the team with a 3-2 record at number two singles. Rhiana Bruce-Lyle and Amanda Fewster both are 2-5 on the season. Bruce-Lyle is 2-0 at number three singles, while Fewster is 1-0 at number two singles and her other win came at number four singles.
Kentucky Wesleyan College: The Panthers have yet to begin their 2014-15 season, but will open this weekend against Oakland City. The team will play a pair of non-conference matches before getting into G-MAC play on March 27 and 28 against Cedarville and Central State.

GREAT MIDWEST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
2015 Men’s Tennis Coaches’ Poll - Spring Preview
With only three teams in the conference on the men’s side, Davis & Elkins - like the women - return as the defending conference champions looking to repeat. The conference champion is crowned by the regular-season schedule instead of a tournament.
Last season, D&E went undefeated, winning both meeting with Cedarville and Central State. The coaches voted this spring and selected D&E as the favorite to repeat, with Cedarville finishing second and Central State third.
