GREENWOOD, Ind. – Following another week of competition, Michael Purcell of Trevecca Nazarene and Kyle Emig of Kentucky Wesleyan have been credited with Great Midwest Athletic Conference baseball weekly honors as announced on Monday.
Purcell was dominant with double-digit strikeout numbers in his lone start to receive G-MAC Pitcher of the Week accolades while Emig was a driving force in the heart of the Panthers’ lineup as the offense put up gaudy numbers in Florida.

Purcell had his wipeout stuff working while doing his part in handcuffing Hillsdale to the tune of a complete game four-hitter. The Trojans took three of four from the Chargers, a regional opponent, in Nashville.
In seven innings pitched, the senior lefty gave up just one run and struck out 10 Hillsdale batters. He was staked to a two-run cushion in the first inning and had three runs of support by the time the Chargers scratched out their only run of the game.
Purcell scattered the four hits and fanned four consecutive batters out of the gates, including retiring the side in order on strikes in the opening frame.
He also finished strong, striking two of his final three batters out in the seventh to close an ERA line of 1.29 on the week.
This spring, Purcell is 2-0 with a 4.45 ERA in 28.1 innings pitched. He has started all five games appeared in and is averaging over a strikeout per inning.

KWC played eight games since last Sunday while resting on Wednesday. The Panthers erupted for a G-MAC single-game record 27 runs in a lopsided rout against Minnesota Crookston on Friday before returning back to Owensboro.
