This Week In Baseball (Feb. 15-21)

2.19.15

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Winter weather has wreaked havoc on the Great Midwest Athletic Conference baseball schedules with several cancellations already announced for the upcoming weekend.

Hunter Newman’s bat continues to steal the show for Trevecca Nazarene as the slugging third baseman received G-MAC Player of the Week status for the second straight time.

Newman is hitting at a torrid pace at .667 through six games and has showcased his extra-base pop in a small sample size this spring.

The G-MAC Pitcher of the Week nod went to Kentucky Wesleyan righty Matt Pobereyko, who threw just three innings last year before being shut down with an injury. After undergoing Tommy John surgery, the senior was awarded the opening day start for the Panthers as he recorded the winning decision against North Greenville.

Opening Day was projected around the league this week for Ohio Valley vs. Charleston and Ashland, but those games have already been scratched. Also cancelled are weekend contests for Trevecca Nazarene.

Weather pending, Alderson Broaddus and Kentucky Wesleyan are scheduled to play. The Battlers will make their season debut while the Panthers are South Carolina bound for a three-game series against Claflin.
