EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Great Midwest Athletic Conference runners are hoping to extend their postseason one step further on Saturday while competing at the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Cross Country Championships.
This year’s event is once again hosted by the University of Southern Indiana and the women’s 6K race will begin at 11:30 a.m. EST while the men’s 10K race will follow at 12:45 p.m. EST.
The top five men’s teams will advance to nationals while the top six women’s teams advance to nationals.
The top three individuals who are not part of a qualifying team automatically advance to the championship finals. Also, individuals finishing in the top five that are not on a qualifying team also advance (i.e. if the top five finishes were not among the qualifying teams, then all five runners advance to nationals.
Most conference schools from the G-MAC are expected to compete in this year’s event.
The Midwest Region is loaded once again for both genders as G-MAC teams will face schools from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)
The G-MAC schools have had ample time to prepare after testing their mental and physical fortitude at Davis & Elkins College for the conference’s fourth cross country meet in late October.
The competition was fierce once again as Cedarville claimed both men’s and women’s titles for the fourth consecutive season.
Cedarville’s Benjamin Tuttle crossed the finish line ahead of everyone else on the men’s side while Trevecca Nazarene’s Caroline Hampton bested everyone in the women’s field.
Live results for Saturday’s meet are not available, but final results will be provided on
