GREENWOOD, Ind. – Davis & Elkins freshman Elise Simon was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Month for October on Thursday.
 
The Senators wrapped up the fall season with three matches in October and one in the early part of November.
 
D&E won against Fairmont State while also contesting West Virginia Wesleyan and Virginia at Wise.
 
As a freshman hailing from France, Simon has excelled while playing the No. 1 spot in the D&E rotation. Her three-set victory against Fairmont State’s No. 1 Taylor Nichols was vital as the Senators won 5-4.
 
Simon won the first set, 6-4, dropped the second set, 4-6, and rebounded to win in convincing fashion with a 6-0 decision in the third and final set.
 
Simon also combined to team with Halima Michael for an important doubles win.
 
She took her opponent down to the wire with a tiebreaker in the first set vs. West Virginia Wesleyan and battled to a 7-6 first-set score in the effort vs. Virginia at Wise during singles.
