GREENWOOD, Ind. – Trevecca Nazarene sophomore Caroline Hampton was named the fifth Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the fall on Monday.
Hampton, the G-MAC’s reigning 2014 runner of the year and freshman of the year, nearly shattered the league’s all-time 5K record as the Trojans ran at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational.
Running in a time of 18:13.00, Hampton was less than two seconds from meeting the conference benchmark established in 2012 by Alexandra Archambault (Cedarville) in 18:11.41.
She averaged 5:51.4 per mile on her way to a ninth-place individual finish in one of the open races. There were a total of 107 runners in her race with a considerable Division I presence.
Hampton topped runners from schools like Vanderbilt, Missouri, Texas A&M, Utah, Northwestern, Purdue, and Colorado State, among others.
Hampton is already in possession of the G-MAC’s all-time best 6K time clocked last year in Evansville at the DII Midwest Regional.
Trevecca Nazarene competes this weekend at the Kentucky Wesleyan-hosted Fast Cats Classic in Owensboro.
