G-MAC Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week (Oct. 12)

10.12.15

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Trevecca Nazarene sophomore Caroline Hampton was named the sixth Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the fall on Monday.

Hampton, the G-MAC’s 2014 runner of the year and freshman of the year, was also the league’s previous weekly pick after flirting once again with a record-breaking 5K time in Kentucky.

At the Kentucky Wesleyan-hosted Fast Cats Classic over the weekend, Hampton returned to a familiar site in Owensboro and beat out the entire the field.

Hampton won the 2014 G-MAC Championship on the same course, also in Owensboro.

This time around, she placed first out of 120 total runners with a time of 18:14.28. The Trojans finished third as a team out of 13 schools participating.

She was just over a second off of her G-MAC-best time for the fall after clocking a 18:13.00 at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational a week ago.

All-time, Hampton is still chasing the G-MAC 5K record of 18:11.41 established by Alexandra Archambault (Cedarville) in 2012.

Trevecca Nazarene will be getting ready to compete at the G-MAC Championship on Saturday, Oct. 24, in Elkins, W.V. This year’s conference meet is being hosted by Davis & Elkins.
