GREENWOOD, Ind. – Alderson Broaddus junior Mia Fabrega was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Month for September on Thursday.
The Battlers faced California (PA), Fairmont State and Waynesburg, to begin the 2015-16 campaign while also competing at the ITA Regionals in Indianapolis.
Fabrega captured a pair of singles wins and an additional doubles victory in the month of September.
The junior anchored the Alderson Broaddus singles rotation in the No. 1 slot and beat Taylor Nichols (Fairmont State) in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5. She also defeated her opponent Aubree Brown (Waynesburg) by scores of 6-1, 6-1, in AB’s home opener on Sept. 22.
Fabrega teamed up with Christina Johnson for an 8-1 doubles win vs. Waynesburg as the Battlers pieced together a 9-0 team shutout.
Fabrega, a junior from Barcelona, Spain, was a First Team All-G-MAC Conference selection as a sophomore.
Alderson Broaddus is scheduled to continue the fall season on Saturday at the University of Charleston for a 3 p.m. dual.
