GREENWOOD, Ind. – With opening day right around the corner, Trevecca Nazarene was tabbed as the early favorite following results of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll.
Voting was conducted among the league’s coaches with a total of seven G-MAC institutions ranked.
Coached by Ryan Schmalz, the Trojans assembled a 43-14 overall record and went 20-4 in the conference schedule. TNU collected five first-place votes as Schmalz prepares for his third year at the helm.
Trevecca Nazarene is gunning for its third consecutive G-MAC championship trophy this season.
Voted second by his peers was Todd Lillpop and Kentucky Wesleyan. The Panthers put together a strong 31-16 overall body of work last season and finished 17-7 against G-MAC competition.
Kentucky Wesleyan received the other two first-place votes in the preseason poll.
Cedarville was selected third, Alderson Broaddus chosen fourth and Davis & Elkins, rounded out the top five.
Ohio Valley and Salem International were picked to finish sixth and seventh in the league, respectively.
The 2015 spring season is officially scheduled to get underway this Sunday, Feb. 1, with Salem International in action against Armstrong Atlantic State University in Georgia.
