GAME SIX - #6 Ohio Valley vs. #7 Salem International
Play began on day two of the G-MAC Baseball Championships on Legacy Field at Prasco Park with the tournament’s first elimination game. Ohio Valley survived with a 11-4 win over Salem International. The game was back and forth of the first five innings, before a big sixth inning for OVU opened the game up and helped the Fighting Scots advance.

OVU scored a run in the first on a throwing error and another in the second on a sacrifice fly, totaling just two hits over the first two innings. Trailing by two in the third, the Tigers started the inning with a single by Jordan Dicks, a double by Nate Mastervick, and a home run by Peyton Newsom to capture a 3-2 lead.

The Scots wasted little time taking back control of the game on a two run home run by Cody Morris in the fourth. A RBI single by Salem’s Jared Ward tied the game in the fifth, but in the sixth, Ohio Valley took full control of the game, scoring four times. The inning was highlighted by RBI singles from Logan Hall and Christian Dan, before Chris Perna’s two-run double.

Leading 8-4, OVU added a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth before eliminating the Tigers. Ohio Valley will advance in the elimination bracket and face #5 Cedarville at 2:15 p.m. this afternoon, once again on Legacy Field.

GAME SEVEN - #2 Kentucky Wesleyan vs. #4 Davis & Elkins
In the afternoon’s second elimination game, Davis & Elkins plated four runs in the sixth to continue on in the double-elimination tournament, defeating Kentucky Wesleyan 7-4.

The Senators took the early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on two hits and an error. KWC answered with a run in the second on two hits as Jordan Harbison doubled to score Josh Vance. The Panthers then took the lead with two runs in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Jonathan Eberhardt and a RBI single by Kyle Emig.

D&E trailed 3-2 in the sixth, but plated four runs on five hits to secure the lead for good. The inning began with five straight singles by the Senators, then a hit by pitch forced home the third run of the inning. The final run of the frame for D&E came on a ground ball double play to keep Kentucky Wesleyan within range of making a comeback.

The Senators however added a run in the seventh on a solo home run by Travis Phelps, and with the performance of Michael Paratore on the mound over the final few innings, D&E stayed alive in the double elimination tournament.

Paratore tossed a complete game, allowing the three runs on nine hits. He struck out five and walked two. Over the final four innings, he allowed no runs, two hits and he recorded four of his five strike outs.

Davis & Elkins moves on to face the winner of the elimination game between #5 Cedarville and #6 Ohio Valley on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Prasco Park.

GAME EIGHT - #5 Cedarville vs. #6 Ohio Valley
In the third and final elimination game of day two, Cedarville University moves on to play another game with its 12-4 win over Ohio Valley on Legacy Field at Prasco Park. The Yellow Jackets scoring 12 times on 16 hits, led once again by Drew Johnson’s bat.

Cedarville scored a run in the first and four in the second to grab an early 5-0 lead over the Fighting Scots. In the first, Johnson infield single scored Sam Summerlin, and in the second Marshall Johnson ripped a two-run double to left field and once again Drew Johnson posted an RBI single.

Ohio Valley responded with two runs in the fourth and a run in the sixth to pull the score to 6-3. In the fourth, the Fighting Scots scored on a two-run single by Logan Dan, and then in the sixth Cody Morris drove in a run on a single to left.

Each team posted a run in the eighth and then Cedarville secured the win with five in the top of the ninth. For Cedarville, the run in the eighth came on an RBI triple by Drew Johnson, his third hit and third RBI. In the ninth, the Yellow Jackets scored five on three hits, one error, and two walks.  The inning was capped by a Zach Huskey two-run double down the line that almost scored three, but OVU’s left fielder relayed the ball in and the runner was thrown out at the plate.

Cedarville moves on to face Davis & Elkins on Friday at 9:00 a.m. (moved up from 1:00 p.m.) at Prasco Park in the fourth elimination game of the week.

GAME NINE - #3 Alderson Broaddus vs. #1 Trevecca Nazarene
In the final game of day two, the Battlers and Trojans played the only winners bracket game of the afternoon, with a trip into the tournament championship round on the line out of the winner’s bracket. The Trojans held a ninth inning lead, but Alderson Broaddus tied the game and sent the game into extra innings where Hunter Newman’s solo home run proved to be the game winner.

Alderson Broaddus grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run double by Brandon Quay, his first of four hits on the evening. The Battlers held that lead, holding the Trojans scoreless for the first four innings. However, in the fifth TNU scored four times on four two-out hits. The two out rally started with a solo home run by Ryan Arington and was capped by a two-run single by Newman.

Trevecca added a run in the seventh, but AB responded in the bottom of the inning to close to within a run at 5-4. The Trojans run came on a solo homer by Nick Howell, while the Battlers had an RBI single by Quay and a sacrifice fly by Jordan Martin.

As the game entered the bottom of the ninth with AB needing a run to extend the game, Quay led the inning off with a single, but was left at first as Trojans pitcher Mike Purcell struck out the next two hitters. Then with two outs a walk and an error allowed the Battlers to tie the game without a hit.

Trevecca didn’t let the mistake distract them as Newman stepped up and homered to left center to give TNU a 6-5 lead. In the bottom of the tenth, Michael Donaldson replaced Purcell and earned the save after allowing one hit, but struck out one and wrapped up with the win for the Trojans.

Trevecca advances directly to the championship game out of the winners bracket and needs to win one of the two possible championship games to claim its second G-MAC Baseball Championship in as many years. The Battlers will play in the elimination bracket final game looking for another chance to face TNU. They will play the winner of Cedarville and Davis & Elkins following their game, which was moved up to 9:00 a.m. to avoid incoming weather.
