DAYTON, Ohio - The inaugural 2014 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Championships began on Friday morning with the quarterfinal round of the six-team tournament. The matches, which were to be played outside on the campus of Cedarville University, were moved to Dayton, Ohio and the Dayton Center Courts facility due to rain showers that covered the region for most of the day.
The quarterfinals and the semifinals both took place on Friday and played out as expected with the higher seeds cruising to victories in each of the match-ups. In the first round, #4 Kentucky Wesleyan defeated #5 Ursuline by a score of 7-0, while #3 Alderson Broaddus advanced past #6 Central State, 5-2.
The matches, normally scheduled to included nine total matches (six singles and three doubles), are played to decision during the conference tournament, meaning the first team to secure five wins of nine possible matches wins and all other matches are left unfinished.
In the semifinals, #1 Davis & Elkins (vs. #4 Kentucky Wesleyan) and #2 Cedarville (vs. #3 Alderson Broaddus) each advanced with 5-0 wins. The two will face off for the G-MAC title on Saturday, April 26 at 10:00 a.m. The matches will take place outside on the campus of Cedarville University.
Earlier this season, the Senators remained undefeated and handed Cedarville its only conference loss with a 6-3 decision in West Virginia.
