INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has named Hunter Newman of Trevecca Nazarene University the Baseball Offensive Athlete of the Week and Randy Dobnak of Alderson Broaddus University the Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Hunter Newman has been named the G-MAC’s Baseball Offensive Athlete of the Week to kick off the 2014 regular-season. Coming off the 2013 season, where Newman was named the conference Freshman of the Year, he had a great opening weekend despite the team going 1-2 over the weekend against Maryville University. .
 
Newman hit .417 in the three games, including five hits, of which three went for extra bases (two doubles and a triple). He also drove in three runs and had a slugging percentage of .750 and an on-base percentage of .462.
Early in the season, Newman ranks among the top three in batting average, hits, doubles, triples, runs scored, runs driven in, and extra base hits.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
 
Randy Dobnak

Randy Dobnak has been named G-MAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week to kick off the 2014 regular-season, as the Battlers join the conference for its first season. Alderson Broaddus went 1-2 on the week, with Dobnak carrying the team to its only win on the week.  
 
In his start against Christian Brothers, Dobnak pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. He struck out seven hitters on the way to his first victory of the 2014 season.

Early in the season, Dobnak’s performance put him among the leaders in ERA (#1 - 0.00), opponents’ batting average (#1 - .080), innings pitched (#1 - 8.0), strikeouts (#1 - seven),  and hits allowed (#1 - two in eight innings).
