OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Cedarville University women’s cross country team became three-time champions earlier this afternoon as the Lady Jackets had nine of the top 12 finishers led by freshman Carsyn Koch.
While the Cedarville squad enjoyed a complete team effort, the individual performance of the day belonged to Trevecca freshman, Caroline Hampton as she took home first-place honors as she beat out Alderson-Broaddus junior Jenny Brewer and teammate sophomore Biz Mclendon, who finished second and third, respectively.
Cedarville had a collective team score of 30, led by Koch’s fourth-place finish at an overall time of 22:28.696. Behind Koch was fifth-place Olivia Esbenshade. Last year’s champion and two-time G-MAC Runner of the Year Alex Archambault placed sixth with teammate sophomore Rachel Groh behind her.
Hampton and Mclendon led the Trojans to a second-place finish. Hampton, who not only won G-MAC Runner of the Year, but also G-MAC Freshman of the Year, finished with a winning time of 22:06.516. It was the first time not only running at Yellow Creek Park, host of this year’s championships, but also her first 6K collegiate event.
Kentucky Wesleyan hosted their first G-MAC cross country championships as Yellow Creek Park. The host team finished fifth in the women’s competition.
