Yellow Jackets capture G-MAC Men's Cross Country Title

Owensboro, KY – Logan Rodgers and Clay Watson battled for the top spot throughout the G-MAC Cross Country championships as Rodgers prevailed to win the race, but Watson’s Cedarville team took home their third consecutive G-MAC Cross Country Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Rodgers and Watson were stride for stride for the first six kilometers of Saturday’s 8K race, then Rodgers started to slowly pull away as the Trevecca sophomore was named Runner of the Year by the conference.  Watson came on strong at the end, but the Cedarville senior finished nine seconds behind Rodgers. 

Cedarville narrowly edged out a strong effort from Trevecca with an overall team score of 28.  Behind Watson’s second place finish was fellow teammate and Freshman of the Year winner, Zac Bowen as he finished fifth.  Other notable Yellowjacket finishers included freshman Daniel Michalski with a seventh place finish and senior Matt Cheney right behind him in eighth.

Rodgers wins his first G-MAC Runner of the Year trophy as he led his team to an second place finsh with an overall score of 32, just four points behind Cedarville.  Rodgers teammates sophomore Ben Moroney took home a third place finish while sophomore Taylor Flemming finishing fourth.

Kentucky Wesleyan, host for this year’s competition finished fifth on their home course in Yellow Creek Park.
