Great Midwest Athletic Conference: Picher of the Year
DAVID LEDBETTER - Forward
Junior - Urbana University
In a tight race for Pitcher of the Year, Ledbetter was as impressive as most of the conference’s top pitchers. He was 5-5 overall, but posted the G-MAC’s third lowest earned run average at 3.95. He pitched 54.2 innings, giving up 61 hits, 24 earned runs and walked 21. All of which ranked among the top five to ten in the conference. However, where he shined was with his 85 strikeouts. The second most strikeouts in conference came from Justin Robinson, who had 53 - 32 less than Ledbetter despite pitching an 1.1 more innings. In conference games, Ledbetter had the second lowest ERA with 4.37. He had a conference high 31 strikeouts to only nine walks. He was named G-MAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week on April 22.
Great Midwest Athletic Conference: Coach of the Year
RYAN SCHMALZ
Trevecca Nazarene University
With the results from the final weekend of the G-MAC season, Schmalz has been named the conference Coach of the Year. The Trojans took three of four from Cedarville to gain the top seed in the conference tournament. Trevecca had a 9-5 conference record while having an overall record of 28-19. The team took advantage of home contests in Nashville where they were 21-8 on their home diamond. Trevecca has some struggles on the road going 7-11, which makes their three wins at Cedarville to finish the regular-season and earn the regular-season championship that much more impressive. Schmalz coached seven All-Conference Team selections this season. The Trojans are 9-3 in their last twelve games.
Great Midwest Athletic Conference: Freshman of the Year
HUNTER NEWMAN - Third Base
Freshman - Trevecca Nazarene
Newman had a stellar freshman season as he helped Trevecca secure the conference tournament’s top seed and regular-season championship. Trevecca’s hot corner hit .343 with six home runs and 45 RBIs. He recorded 57 hits in 166 at bats for the Trojans and scored 49 runs. He slugged an impressive .530 with 19 extra base hits and also had an on base percentage .414. He ranks in the top five of many major hitting categories for the G-MAC. Newman ranks first in runs scored, RBIs, second in home runs, and first in total bases.
