Lily Schuler has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conferences Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week. In three matches this past week, Cedarville went 3-0, and Schuler went 2-1 in singles action out of the number one position and was 3-0 in number one doubles, including an important doubles victory in a slim 5-4 team victory over a talented Bethel team.
In the week’s first match, Lily Schuler won 6-0, 6-2 in singles against Wittenberg, and 8-0 in doubles, teamed up with Courtney Heydt, who was last week’s G-MAC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week.
Schuler dropped her number one singles match against Bethel 6-2, 6-1, but rebounded with Heydt to win the number one doubles spot 8-1, which proved to be the difference in the team’s 5-4 win over Bethel. In conference action at Ursuline, Schuler won 6-1, 6-0 and then posted another 8-0 win in doubles with Heydt.
On the season, Schuler is 8-9 overall but all coming from the toughest number one position. She has found her success in double action, posting a 14-3 record with three different pairings. Her current partner, Courtney Heydt, and her are a perfect 5-0 on the season.
Note: The G-MAC, in its inaugural season, sponsors women’s tennis currently with three programs (Cedarville, Central State, and Ursuline), and will expand to include at least six programs next year. With an expanded season, the Athlete of the Week honors will cover both the fall and spring sessions.
