NASHVILLE - On Friday night, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament tipped off on the campus of top seed Trevecca Nazarene University.
In second semifinal, TNU hosted #4 Central State University, who advanced to the final four with its opening round victory over Ursuline College this past Saturday. In the regular-season, the Trojans won both meetings, the first by nine points, but then by 23 points in the second meeting. In front of the home crowd, Trevecca ran away with victory, advancing past Central State with a 105-71 win.
Trevecca will face #2 seeded Urbana University in the finals on Saturday for the G-MAC Women’s Basketball Championship (2:00 PM - CST), after the Blue Knights knocked off Cedarville University in the other semifinal on Friday evening.
From the opening tip, TNU controlled the game as they scored the game’s first eight points and quickly built a lead as big as 27 points at 42-15. Central State closed the advantage to 23 points at halftime, but the games was well in hand as the second half was much of the same. The Trojans built a 39-point lead and basically ran the clock out to advance out of the semifinals.
All 14 players that took the floor for Trevecca scored at least three points, led by Christina Curtner’s team-high 13 points on 4-6 shooting in 21 minutes of action. Anissa Ragland scored 12 points, while Anna Mitchell netted 11 points, and Haley Felker and Kylie White each scored 10. Mitchell had a team-high and game-tying high seven rebounds.
For Central State, Veronne Clark and Aryelle Covington each scored a team-high 10 points, while the Marauders were held to 37.3% shooting. TNU shot 50.8% from the field, including hitting 11 of 19 three-pointers. They also went an amazing 30-39 from the free throw line, while Central State was 18-28.
