INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference inaugural Women’s Basketball Championships will take place in Nashville, Tennessee on March 8-9, 2013, hosted by the top seeded Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans. However, before the semifinal round begins next Friday, the tournament really begins in Wilberforce, Ohio on Saturday, March 2, 2013 when #5 seed Ursuline travels to #4 Central State University.

The Arrows and Marauders will meet for the third time this season, looking to earn its way to Nashville and a meeting with the top seeded Trojans. CSU has won both regular-season contests, including the season-finale this past Saturday on the campus of Central State.

The first round game will begin at 4:00 p.m. and will feature live audio courtesy of both Ursuline College and Central State University. Max Radigan will call Saturday’s game on the Ursuline College Sports Network for the Arrows, while Central State audio feed will be broadcast live on Ohio Sports Radio Network.

The winner of Saturday’s contest will take on regular season champion Trevecca Nazarene University (18-7, 7-1 G-MAC) in the second G-MAC semifinal on March 8. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST (8:30 p.m. EST).

Both of this year’s meetings between UC and CSU came in a span of two and a half weeks. Central State came to Pepper Pike and won the first showdown 84-62 on February 5, and Ursuline visited the Marauders on February 23 and lost, 72-49.

Game Notes:

In the two head-to-head matchups, Central State out-rebounded Ursuline by 12.5 boards per game. The Arrows came within four offensive rebounds of the Marauders, but CSU had a +21 advantage on the defensive glass.

In the season series, Ursuline committed 40 turnovers while Central State turned the ball over 36 times. The Marauders were credited with 29 steals while the Arrows had 13 swipes.

Ursuline junior guard Katie Cappello scored 18 points in the first meeting against CSU but missed the second game with an ankle injury, while senior Laura Campbell averaged 17.5 points per game against Central State, up from 15.5 against her other opponents.

UC sophomore Darria Baker scored 26 points in the two meetings with the Marauders, good for 13 points per game. Against other opponents, she averaged 8.4 points per game, while classmate point guard Brianna Woods handed out 133 assists on the season, tying her own school record for assists in a single season, set last season. Her next assist will give her the school record.

Ursuline made 14 three-pointers in the two meetings, while Central State connected on eight shots from behind the arc.

CSU’s Shakeira Lang went for 24 points in the first meeting between the teams. She was 8-9 from the field and hit all four of her three-point attempts, while Tajha Walker (15 points, 11 rebounds) and Aryelle Covington (13 points, 10 rebounds) both notched double-doubles.

Tanija Beasley recorded a double-double in the second game, totaling 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Marauders have won the last four meetings by an average of 16.8 points per game over Ursuline.
