SPOKANE, Wash. (courtesy of @CUJackets) - Matt Brooker of Cedarville University became the conference's first and the Yellow Jackets first NCAA All-American in any sport. He helped lead the Yellow Jackets Cross Country team to a 15th place finish at the NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country Championship.
Brooker finished 28th out of 248 competitors at the Plantes Ferry Athletic Complex with a time of 31:08 for the 10,000 meters. The Top 40 earn All-America recognition.
"This wasn't our best race of the year, but I couldn't be more proud of these men and what they have accomplished," proclaimed Head Coach Paul Orchard. "Matt Brooker brings back our first NCAA All-America honor and we finished higher today than we were ranked. It's been a great season!"
Cedarville entered the race rated 17th in the country. The Jackets totaled 434 points and matched last year's 15th-place showing.
Joe Niemiec placed 85th with a mark of 32:01. Ben Tuttle was 119th in 32:32.
Adams State (Colo.) repeated as champion with 54 points. Midwest Region champ Grand Valley State (Mich.) was 2nd with 104 points and Augustana (S.D.) was next with 122.
