CEDARVILLE, Ohio (courtesy of @CUJackets) - Matt Brooker made Cedarville University by winning the 59th Annual Men's All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship on his home layout at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.
The senior from Spring Mills, Pa. became the first Yellow Jacket in CU's long cross country history to claim the individual title.
Brooker toured the 8,000 meters in warm, muggy conditions in 24:54. He produced a 10-second gap between himself and the nearest competitor.
Ben Tuttle came through with one of his best runs. He placed 6th out of 289 competitors in 25:23.
"I thought Matt was clearly the best runner in the state of Ohio today," remarked Head Coach Paul Orchard. "He and Ben were both outstanding."
Akron won the meet overall with 83 points while Malone was the runner-up with 103. Rounding out the top five in the 41-team field were Miami (119), Ashland (152), and Cedarville (158).
In the NCAA Division II/NAIA 12-team grouping, Malone was on top with 45 points. The Yellow Jackets and Ashland tied for 2nd with 62 points each.
On the Women's side, Cedarville finished sixth to lead the G-MAC institutions, while Ursuline was just behind the Lady Jackets in seventh, and Central State rounded out the field in 12th. The Arrows finished just a minute and 21 second behind Cedarville, a vast improvement from the G-MAC Championships last season when Ursuline finished 12 minutes and 22 seconds behind.
At the G-MAC championship last season, Cedarville had all seven runners finish ahead of Ursuline's runners, while this season two UC runners topped last years G-MAC Champion Alex Archambault from Cedarville.
