MASON, Ohio - No. 1 seed Cedarville nearly pulled off an amazing comeback against No. 4 Olivet Nazarene, but dropped a 6-5 decision to the Tigers to finish pool play at the NCCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
The Yellow Jackets, who ended with a 2-2 record to finish third in their pool, failed to advance to the tournament semifinals. They end the campaign with a 38-13 record which sets a new single-season school mark for most wins in a season.
Against Olivet Nazarene at Legacy Field, the Tigers broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. They extended the lead to 6-1 with another tally in the seventh.
Cedarville answered with its best offensive inning of the day in the bottom half of the frame, but it wasn’t enough. Alex Beelen had an RBI groundout, Nate Davenport delivered a two-run double, and David Ledbetter followed with a run-scoring single to account for the final.
Ryan Ledbetter finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Jackets. Davenport upped his RBI total to 63 to break his previous CU single-season record of 61 set last year.
Olivet Nazarene is 36-16-1 overall.
