Brooker region champion; Jackets qualify for NCAA

KENOSHA, Wis. (courtesy of @CUYellowJackets) - Matt Brooker won the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Men's Cross Championship in impressive fashion and the Yellow Jackets tied for fourth place as a team to qualify for the NCAA Championship.

Brooker covered the 10,000 meters in 30:35 at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside's Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course. He was 38 seconds clear of his nearest competitor.

Josiah Bragg was 22nd out of 158 participants and Ben Tuttle was on his heels in 23rd. Both runners were credited with a time of 31:46.

Neil Klinger placed 37th in 32:07 while Ryan Gustafson was 41st in 32:13. Jacob Walter finished 51st in 32:22 and Clay Watson came in 61st in 32:32.

Grand Valley State won the team title with 62 points and was followed by Ashland with 92. Ferris State was third at 103 with Cedarville matching Southern Indiana with 124 points apiece.

The Yellow Jackets advance to the NCAA Division II Championship in Joplin, Mo. on Nov. 17.
