Over 50 Student-Athletes Qualify for Indoor Track & Field Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Midwest Athletic Conference will be well represented at the 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, set to take place March 13-14 in Virginia Beach.
 
The regular season just ended within the conference  at the Great Midwest Championships last weekend at Ashland’s Niss Athletic Center.
 
While Ashland claimed the top team honors for both the men and women, there are plenty of standout individuals from the league with either auto or provisional qualifying times/marks in their respective events.
 
On the women’s side Molly Winner (AU), Leah Smith (UF), Allison Kuzma (HC), Jade Avance (AU), and Hope Sievert (AU) qualified in multiple events.
 
Molly Winner currently holds the highest mark in all of Division II in the weight throw, with a 21.45m mark. The RS junior also ranks second in the shot put with a mark of 16.71m mark. Avance and Sievert qualified for both the 800m and DMR.
 
Findlay’s Leah Smith qualified for a conference-high three events in the 60m, 200m, and 4x400 relay. Smith ran a season-high 7.37 seconds in the 60m, that ranks eighth nationally. In the 200m, Smith’s time of 23.71 is fifth in the country.
 
Allison Kuzma has proven to be the conference’s top distance runner this season, qualifying for both the 3,000m and 5,000m races.
 
In total, 31 individual student-athletes from seven different institutions will represent the G-MAC on the women’s side.
 
For the Men, 24 individuals qualified for their respective events, including two relays. Reigning national champion Ben Haas qualified once again for the shot put and weight throw. Haas has maintained the top spot in the weight throw throughout the regular season with a mark of 22.91. He is coming off the G-MAC Championship, where he won both the weight throw and shot put.
 
Cedarville’s Brandon Rogers and Matthew Shaeckenbach each punched their tickets for a pair of events. Rogers qualified for the 400 and will run a leg in the Yellow Jackets’ 4x400 relay ream. Shaeckenbach will compete in the 60 hurdles and high jump.
 
Ashland’s Colton Thress qualified for both the 800 and the DMR.
 
Six different schools were represented on the men’s side.
