INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Midwest Athletes of the week for February 9th, 2026 are based on student-athlete performance from February 2nd, 2026- February 8th, 2026.

Men’s Basketball
Maceo Williams / Ashland University / Rs.-Sr.  / Forward / Gahanna, Ohio
Ashland Eagles Maceo Williams aided in the Eagles two victories over the Thomas More Saints, 63-57, and the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers, 73-67.  He averaged 16 points, 13 rebounds and five assists per game for the week.  He also found a career-high 16 rebounds.

Women’s Basketball
Alyssa Ziehler  / University of Findlay / Sr. / Forward / Clinton, Ohio
Findlay Oiler Alyssa Ziehler aided in the Oilers going 2-0 against the Ursuline Arrows, 81-72, and Tiffin, 74-61.  During their victory against the Arrows, Ziehler found her 700th career rebound, making her just the sixth player in program history to have 1000+ points and 700+ rebounds in her career.

Men's Lacrosse Offensive
Eric Wong / University of Thomas More / Fr. / Union, Kentucky
Eric Wong led the Saints’ offense with three goals and two assists in a 13–10 victory over Young Harris College. 

Men's Lacrosse Defensive
Sean House / University of Davenport / RS. Jr. / Crofton, Maryland
Sean House turned in a standout performance in goal against Maryville, recording 27 saves, the second-most in a single game in school history.


STUNT
Makiah Francis / Ashland University / Jr. / Clyde, Ohio
Ashland Eagle Makiah Francis paced the Eagles scoring against both the Walsh Cavaliers and the Tiffin Dragons.  She found 34 points versus the Cavaliers and 52 points versus the Dragons.

Men’s Tennis
Sergio Lopez Guillen / Northwood University / Fr. / Murcia, Spain
Northwood Timberwolves Sergio Lopez Guillen went 4-0 for the Timberwolves.  He swept in both singles matches as he went 2-0 in both matches.

Women’s Tennis
Ane Dannhauser /Hillsdale College  / Jr. / Johannesburg, South Africa
Hillsdale Charger Ane Dannhauser went 4-0 to aid in the Chargers victory against Saginaw Valley State Lakers.  She is a perfect 8-0 in matches for the spring and has yet to drop a set playing exclusively at No. 1 singles and No/ 1 doubles.


Men's Indoor Field
Joel Brown / University of Walsh / Jr. / Massillon, Ohio
Joel Brown finished second in the men’s heptathlon at the Doug Raymond Invitational at Kent State, posting a score of 5,479. The performance set a new school record, met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard, and currently ranks No. 1 in NCAA Division II this season.

Men’s Indoor Track
Brandon Rogers / University of Cedarville/ Jr. / West Chester, Ohio
Brandon Rogers dominated the 400 meters at the Ashland Open, clocking a time of 46.48 seconds, the second-fastest mark in NCAA Division II this year. Rogers also ran a leg on Cedarville’s 4×400 relay team, which posted a 3:12.35, meeting the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.

Women’s Indoor Field
Colleen Steinmetz / University of Findlay / Jr. / Ansonia, Ohio
Colleen Steinmetz claimed victory in the pole vault at the Michigan Invitational, clearing 4.08 meters. Her mark ranks seventh in NCAA Division II this season.

Women’s Indoor Track 
Nevaeh Lewis / University of Tiffin / So. / Mansfield, Ohio
Nevaeh Lewis captured the 60-meter dash title at Ashland’s Jud Logan Light Giver Open with a time of 7.41 seconds. The performance was a personal best, tied the G-MAC record, and broke a 10-year-old school record.
