Hillsdale Drops to Upper Iowa in Albanese Candy Bowl

HOBART, Ind.- The Chargers capped off their 2025 season against Upper Iowa University on Saturday afternoon in a loss at the inaugural Albanese Candy Bowl.
 
Through four quarters, the Peacocks were able to find a 37-28  win over the Chargers. This bowl game is played between a team from the G-MAC and a team from the GLVC.
 
The Peacocks found the back of the endzone less than two minutes into the first quarter as Darryl Overstreet Jr. connected with Lonny Melvin Jr. to put UIU ahead 6-0. Nathan Behne’s extra point was good to extend the lead to 7.
 
The Chargers answered with a Ben Ngishu 26-yard touchdown run to put Hillsdale within one. Colin McKernan completed a pass to Mason Moulton for a successful two-point conversion, putting Hillsdale up one 8-7.
 
Darryl Overstreet Jr. would added another touchdown on a 13-yard pass to Logan Rosauer to take the lead. Overstreet would finish the game going 25-34 for 331 yards. His performance earned him Offensive Player of the Game. Upper Iowa remained ahead of the Chargers for the remainder of the game to capture the bowl game title.
 
For Hillsdale, Shea Ruddy recorded five receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown. Ruddy, who was the Special Teams Player of the Year, returned a punt 97 yards for a touchdown to  put the Chargers within 11. Ben Ngishu rushed for 82 yards on 15 attempts and one touchdown. Luke Penola led the Hillsdale defense with nine total tackles, including four solo tackles.
 
The Chargers will exit the 2025 postseason with a record of 6-6 overall and 5-4 in conference, which was good for fifth in the G-MAC.
