Trevecca Nazarene University freshman Mikayla Dodson has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Month for women’s golf. In the month of March, Dodson helped pace the Lady Trojans to a seventh place finish at the Rome News-Tribune Invitational and a fourth place finish at the Cherokee Valley Invitational.

Dodson’s month and season was highlighted at the Cherokee Valley Invitational with her medalist performance, topping the leaderboard with a two-day total of 158 (80-78). Her 158 won easily over second place Rebecca Mirovich of Belmont Abbey College, who posted a 166.
Dodson’s 80 on day one was the best round by three strokes and her day two low of 78 was the only round in the seventies and also was the low round by three strokes.

In the first tournament of the spring season, Dodson shot a 164 (81-83) at the Rome News-Tribune Invitational, finishing third on the team and in a tie for 23rd out of 75 golfers.

Men’s and Women’s Golf name an Athlete of the Month, rather than Athlete of the Week due to the fact that the NCAA golf season covers both the fall and spring semesters. The randomness of a specific golf schedule also does not adapt itself well to a weekly award since there are weeks in which a team may not play and tournaments are not restricted to weekends only. Winners will be announced following the months of September, October, March, and April.
