Like Malone, Hillsdale enjoyed a perfect start to the season at 4-0 in the West Division with a trio of Midwest Region wins. The Chargers dropped Michigan Tech (GLIAC) in five sets and swept Indianapolis (GLVC) the next day.
Hillsdale also hosted its own tourney and swept Glenville State and Saginaw Valley State (GLIAC) to close out the weekend.
Van Wienen was impressive in her first collegiate action as the rookie had 36 kills vs. just seven errors against all four opponents. She led all Great Midwest players with a .392 attacking percentage and also contributed 10 blocks.
Van Wienen averaged 2.77 kills per set and 0.77 blocks per game.
She had 13 kills and seven blocks in her Hillsdale (and Great Midwest) debut against Michigan Tech on Thursday. It was a match that Hillsdale bounced back from two sets down to defeat the Huskies in five.
