PITCHING AOTW
Courtnie Spain helped guide the Cedarville softball program to a pair of wins over Minnesota-Crookston, as the offense unloaded, but the pitching staff also performed allowing just two runs in two games. Spain hurled a five-inning complete game, allowing just one run and two hits in game two of the doubleheader sweep.
In game two, a much tighter 9-1 win, Spain earned her fourth win of the year. She allowed just one earned run in the top of the second, after both teams were held scoreless. The game remained tight through four innings, as Cedarville led 2-1, before scoring four in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the bottom of the fifth to end the game under the run rule.
She finished the contest with seven strikeouts. She leads the team with a 2.68 earned run average and is tied for the team lead with four wins, which is tied for second in conference behind Urbana’s Haley Kolmerten.
She now has a G-MAC-high and team-high five complete games and has recorded over half of her team’s 91 strikeouts - putting away a conference-best 54 hitters on strikes in only 47 innings. Opponents are hitting only .192 off the righty.
