Clay Watson has been named the men’s season’s first Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week after his performance at the Emory Invitational.
Watson took second place in the 5,000 meter race, helping his team finish third in a field of 28 schools. His time of 14:51.28 is the best so far this season in conference. He finished over eight seconds faster than his teammate Ben Tuttle in the same field, and over 52 seconds faster than the next best time posted this early in the season.
Watson will look to continue to improve on his time over the next few weeks, looking to qualify for the NCAA DII Championships. The provisional standard is 14:37.45.
