Hillsdale won its fifth straight match on Saturday when the Chargers defeated Grand Valley. Cimpeanu paired with teammate Gabe Katz to win No. 2 doubles (7-5) and went on to win No. 2 singles later that day (6-4, 6-3).
Despite a team loss to Ferris State, Cimpeanu was still victorious in both matches he played. The pair of Cimpeanu and Katz once again won No. 2 doubles (6-1). He then defeated his No. 2 doubles opponent (6-3, 6-2).
This is the first time the freshman has earned Athlete of the Week honors. Cimpeanu’s older sister Hannah also plays tennis for Hillsdale and is no stranger to conference weekly awards.
