Kelsey Chapman has been named G-MAC Softball Pitcher Athlete of the Week after a solid outing this past week in a Cedarville win over the University of the Sciences. The senior, who is the team’s starting catcher, pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only two hits and striking out 10.
For Chapman it was her first time on the mound for the Lady Jackets since her freshman season where she pitched just over 38 innings. It is her sixth career complete game and third shutout.
In her first appearance of the season, she allowed a base runner in the first (walk), two runners in the fourth (single and error), and one in the seventh (single). The fourth innings, she sat down the team in order. She struck out the side in the second, and sat down seven straight from the first inning through the third and then a game-high 10 straight from the fourth to the seventh inning.
Chapman carried her team to victory in her only pitching appearance, but she also provided support behind the plate and in the batters box. In six games, she hit .333 with six runs scored and a team-high three doubles and nine runs batted in. She recorded a hit in five of the six games, reaching base by hit or walk in all six games. She scored a run in five of the six games and had an RBI in five of six games as well. She had either a run or an RBI in all six, and had at least one of each in four of the six games.
